South Carolina State law Section 206.3.5 states that Braided fishing line should not be used when trolling for White or Black Crappie from February 1st till June 1st. The penalty is $60.00 plus court costs for the first offense

The Kid can afford to throw $50 non floating nests in the lake so despoiling would be cheap for him.

Got ya. O just for the record it was a 80 dollar net that floated to bottom after one week.

My I use a high visibility braid 10lb to 2lb. I put a 5 feet 4 pound flouracarbon line. The Flourcarbon is so if I hung it will break off. Also gives me a little confidence the fish does not see the braid when it see it going by. I feel longlining is a reaction bite. Also with braid it stays on reel longer, I can untangle easier then mono. Also I put a black marker on the braid at 60 feet so my lines are out the same each time for depth control.

I thought that the braid floated and you wouldn't be able to get down as deep as you could mono. Like most, I use the hi vis on my trolling rods.

Brush Jumper, these guys might yank your chain some but usually they'll straighten things out before you make many mistakes. Good fishing to ya!
