    Maybe your talking something diffefent, but up here we have fresh water lampreys which look like an eel but have a circular mouth with rows of teeth. They come up the rivers the spring to spawn.

    When I was a kid I used to wade the local river below an old dam in the shallow gravel beds where they make their nests. I would snare them with an old broom stick with a piano wire loop. The chief of police would give me a buck a head for them. Big money for a kid back in the late fifties.

    They kill off the fish by attaching and draining them of blood. Caught my share of fish with round scars from Lampreys.
