That is a great story. You have a great fishing partner. Thanks for sharing.
My plate was full this past weekend, but I found a couple hours to sneak back to the water Saturday morning. I had to be home at 9 AM and with the cloudy, overcast conditions, I decided I'd try the bass one more time. I recruited some help from my youngest brother in law.
I've been taking Simon fishing since he was about 5 years old. That's when my wife and I started dating. He will be turning 13 this year!!! He's grown into quite the young man and he knows how to catch a fish too. I've carried him on perch jerks and crappie trips mainly, but never chasing bass.
I gave him a open face reel with a topwater bait and after a few instructions on how to "walk the dog" he was off to the races!!
The fishing was not as good as last weekend. Fish were not "schooling" as I hoped they would be with the weather, but we did catch fish on top. It was a one here, one there kind of morning. We had to hit a lot of points to put fish in the boat. We fished from 6:30 AM-8:30 AM and caught a total of 8 bass with the biggest being 3-3.5lb. It didn't take Simon but one missed fish before he figured out how to pause on the hook set. After that, he was on fire. I'd have a fish miss my bait completely and I taught him how to fire right back in behind me and he caught several fish doing that.
The biggest fish he caught was a priceless scene! Simon was winching her in when she made a run under the boat and came up tail dances behind him!! Once he caught a glimpse of what he had hooked he was a nervous wreck trying to get the fish to the net LOL I couldn't have had anymore fun than that little short Saturday morning trip. As we loaded the boat, Simon said "this is the BEST day ever!" and I had to agree.
