Another epic tale from the boat of Whisker and Raccoon. Congrats on the catch of keepers, stinkers, and stonkers.
The Raccoon and I went to Stumpy Pond yesterday to check things out. Launched at 9am ish. Too windy to troll so anchoring became a necessity. Tried my Pop's perch hole. Raccoon caught the first stinker perch (smallest on the perch sizing scale) which became cut bait on his cat stik. A few tugs on the rod but nothing materialized. Did some island hopping here and there and settled in a little calm spot in 12ft of water near a fallen tree. I broke off a big fish on 2lb line and fed the fish 1 whole night crawler and 2 minnows. Raccoon hooked and landed a stonker perch (highest on the perch size sizing class). I landed a keeper channel cat. Went up the old channel and anchored in a little hole. Caught another keeper channel and fed more worms to the peckerhead bream. Finally gave Raccoon's theory a try and motored up to new river channel and fished there. 2 catfishermen in a boat came by and said they were catching big(stonker) perch like crazy up near the Dearborne dam by Rocky Creek Junction. Took forever to get up there because the turbines were working overtime. Fished the prescribed spot but it was infested with stinker perch (been fooled) and bunch of Raccoon's rigs were swept into snags. Drifted down stream but thankfully before Raccoon almost strangled me, he lucked into another stonker perch and some keepers. Left around 3.
Oh I could wrestle a monster fish![]()
