What would be a good choice of rods for long lining . And what length also . Thanks
I use BnM 10' out the back and the Wally Marshall Troll Tech 12', 14', 16', and 18' out the side.
I want to spend enough to get a good rod the first time , & my boat is 17 foot. Which 10 " BnM do you use?
I dont own any but alot of guys believe in the Southern Pro Crappie Rods. You can put 6'ers across the back and then start spreading them out using a couple each of 10', 12', 14' and even 16' if you want to start off with that many rods. Now I'm assuming youre gonna set the back of your boat up for you to fish all these rods. If youre setting the front and back up for two people I'd recommend 6 - 6'ers across the back and up front would be (on each side) a 10', 12', 14'. That's 12 rods for longlining between two people..
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
I use the southern crappie rods and they are as good as you can buy. They are medium priced. If I am fishing by myself I run 12 and 14 out the side and 6,8,and10 out the back. If I pull out the front I run 8,10,12 and 14. I have 16 footers but I seldom use them. The southern crappie rods are Kevlar mix and (knock on wood ) I have yet to break one and I have caught 8 lb striper on them and would not trade for any other rod.
If you are long lining jigs, any rod will do. You normally let jigs out 40/50' or more.
Are these southern crappie rods ok to use for pulling crank baits also ?

Ed Duke is the man behind the Southern Crappie Rods and they are the best around IMO. They are great for pulling and tightlining. I don't see why they wouldn't be fine for pulling cranks but might be a little light for pushing cranks. I've used them with up to 1oz of weight and they worked fine for that.
Ed just developed a 14' crankbait rod that's stiffer and specially designed for pushing cranks. They are on his website now too.
They have good backbone and a soft tip. And the Kevlar construction is very durable.
