    Default Lake Marion Alligators

I was lucky enough to draw a gator tag this year for the first time and its in the Midlands area (Lake Marion). I'm not very familiar with the lake but i plan to hunt the northern part of it. Has anyone seen any large gators in the area? Any recommendations? Thanks for the help!

Used to see some big ones in Black's Bottoms. That was a looooong time ago though....before there was an alligator season.

I was there early summer and stayed just up from low falls landing. Saw a few nice gators while out on the dock. When you determine how you are going to catch them keep in mind all the trees out there. I have caught 2. The first one was in open water and I threw a snatch hook on him. The second was with a rod and reel and he went straight for the marsh grass. That was a pain, to the point I was hoping he would pull off. What I am trying to say is I couldn't imagine trying to fight one that has your lines wrapped through trees. I don't know if you have ever done this before or not but gators are very territorial, and don't venture out much. The more time you can spend there scouting to locate one that likes open water the better. And when you scout go without equipment so you are not tempted to mess with him until you are ready and have your ducks in a row

Well said brush pile. Never done it, but sounds like great advice.

If you get a chance go to Stumphole Landing and look at the picture of one of the gators some friends of mine got the first season. He came out of the Stumphole area and Dave, who runs the landing, can probably point you toward some good areas because he runs several trot lines there.
