Default Lake Wylie Perch jerk part 2

After a fun trip to Wylie a week or so ago, I decided to join the local guys at Wylie today. I took a local buddy of mine (Mation Munn) who is an experienced fisherman but new to perch jerking and especially tightlining with numerous poles. We met Remus, John and Big Dawg along with one other fisherman whose name has left me due to old age syndrome or just plan forgetfulness for which I apologize. Remus had once again brought a big tank of minnows and after I picked out the ones that weren't dyed blue we set off to fish.
I won't mention where we fished since I am posting in the main page and this is their home lake and they were gracious to share info with us. Marion and I followed John up a ways and my screen lit up so we stopped and set up. I had just gotten Marion set up with just 3 lines out when he got a good hit and the fight was on. It turned out to be a catfish around 5 lbs. so you can figure out what we spent the next 15 minutes doing.
We continued slowly working our way along the creek and picked up a couple of small perch and then I got slammed and reeled in a perch that weighed 1.5 Lbs. Before the day was over we had several more perch about the same size. After about an hour I got a really light bite, set the hook and thought I had another perch on, but look what came on board.

I caught my first crappie of 2014 on Wylie last week and now my first slab of 2104. She measured 17 inches and weighed 2.25 Lbs. A nice surprise since we were catching perch up until then. That must have turned the switch on because we started picking up more crappie and ended up with a mixed bag of 12 crappie and 12 perch that weighed a total of 24 lbs. We had 3 more crappie that were 1.5 lbs. apiece so we were pleased with the catch.
Here is the live well shot.

We were planning to meet back at the ramp at one, but we passed both boats still fishing so I suspect they were in the crappie and were not about to leave. We left them biting as the saying goes, mainly because we had a 90 mile drive and fish to clean. I look forward to their report to see what they were into when we left. Many thanks guys for making us feel welcome and sharing your hotspots with us.

I had been working on a work table for our backyard that the wife could use for potting plants and I could use for cleaning fish. A buddy had just finished assembling the top and I had just set it on the legs and planned to hook up the faucets and drain next week, but it got pressed into early service today. Nice way to get it broken in.

thanks for coming over Ray. glad you and mr. munn had a good time at Wylie today we enjoyed talking and sharing a few laughs before fishing started we look forward to having you back real soon. (did you catch that big crappie on them pink minners you had? )

Ron and I did about the same as you Ron counted and I think he said 11 crappie and 12 perch and 3 nice cat fish biggest crappie being around 1 3/4 lb with a couple more around 1 1/2 lb. but it took us all day to do it. cant remember how many john said they had other then a good mess of crappie and w/p mix .
when you came by it was pick up one or two then a while till another one or two would bite so between bites Ron and I settled a lot of the world problems voted in a new prez and ruck John over the coals till his feet burned . I wont be at the get together but you ,John Stumpy and the rest of yall S.C. boys get on down there and stick it to them crackers and don't forget to spur um real good before they take off across the creek

Glad you guys came up for some fun in the sun and wind. I lost sight of you up the creek and was hoping you were doing good. We fought the wind out in the open and got a few and lost a few. I think we did fairly good considering the elements. Robert and I had no where in particular to go so we hung out waiting and looking around. If the water were a different color and not so much wind I believe we all would have done a lot better. I don't know if you threw any back but we had quite a few. the Blue Herron's and the Osprey loved us. I am looking forward to the day we can come and visit with you at your home lake. Maybe next time you are up here we will have more fishermen on the lake with us.

Thanks. There was a bit of trickery involved with the table. My wife bought the table to use as a potting table, but what she thought was a solid surface top turned out to be pressed board with a plastic covering, which deterioated over time. I wanted a cleaning table with sink so I offered to make a nice oak top with a bar sink for her. She knew I was up to something but agreed so now we have a dual purpose table. A friend of mine does woodworking as a hobby so I knew the top would look pretty nice.(My wife knew he did good work so she was happy to agree.) It has 3 coats of exterior clear poly over 3 coats of stain, so I hope it holds up. We will use cutting boards to keep from scarring the coating.
Now I have to hook up the water and drain lines, but I have water at the back of the shop so it will be pretty simple.

Ray , You done went and caught a biggun ! Glad you guy's found some. We went all the way to the bridge and pulled jig's for bout an hour or so. Only one taker and lost it at the boat. Switched over to tight lines and started picking up a couple. Called Remus and he said after the BLUE GOO wore off Ron's minner's they was catchin a few. We moved up to where you saw us. Think Kurt said we caught 18 crappie but only eight keepers. A lot of perch and a 7-8 lb. blue cat that made a mess out of everything on one side of the boat. Good to see you again and your buddy. Hate he had to be seen with this crowd but it happens. Least the dog didnt bite him. Let us know when you want to fish your side of town. We can make the ride and you can show us the good spots. Pictures I got aint to good but maybe you can make out them two pirates we ran up on.Name: 20140314_132920.jpg

I guess y'all ain't figured out that I am coming to Wylie because I can't catch crappie on Murray. I caught more in these 2 trips than I've caught at Murray in 6 months. I can't make the things that work elsewhere work on Murray.
If you wanna come show me what I am doing wrong, come on, but don't say I did not warn you.
I ever put out some brush piles but have not caught any off them.
The most I have caught is fishing with other guys on their brush. Fising Murray for crappie just cuts my fanny.
