    Default Perch Jerkin at Murray

After aborting our trip to Clark Hill due to muddy waters, we went to Murray trying a different spot further down the lake in 40 FOW which is where folks were telling us they were. The area we normally fish further up the lake is low due to the lake being down about 10 ft. We put in at Shull Island and made a quick and cold run to Bear Creek. Once we found the magic 40 FOW the DF lit up.

The fishing was fast and furious, even to the point of Jeff catching a triple. "I only had one hook baited" he said. Before the morning was over he had a couple more triple hits. My friend Harry and his son were next to us in his boat and he hollered over that his son, Will, had a double. When I told him we were getting triples, he said, "But look at this double!" Will had landed a 4 or 5 Lb. LM who had swallowed the perch that originally hit his minnow. We thought that was a bit unusual but not unheard of and then about 15 minutes later he said, "He did it again!" And danged if he did not have an almost identical catch to the first one. I am hoping he will send me a picture so I can post it here.
    Here is Jeff's triple.

And here are Butch's cooler and net shots. Oh, yea, I caught the catfish on one of the 12 ft crappie poles. Took awhile to land him. We also caught several smaller stripers. (15"..to short to keep at Murray

Each time I posted a picture, it changed the previous one to a link attachment which would not display. Not sure what is up with that. By the way, we are slow learners. 3 hours after Will caught the LM on the perch, I set up one of my striper rods with a barrel sinker and leader and put a small perch on it. We got several good hits on it, but never got the hook in whatever hit it. Wish we had thought to do that much earlier.

I have a friend that catches monster perch on 1/2 oz spoons. He jigs them down like you would on a minnow rig for the perch. He also catches the bass as well on the spoons. I think Im gonna try some spoons next time! Anyone else heard of using spoons?

Good report Ray. Sounds like a good time pulling in the perch and from the pictures y'all were busy Thanks for the report and pics.
I just ordered some 6/10 spoons for jigging perch, our kayak club is going next month to Hartwell for some perch jerking and striper fishing.

I should have noted that Jeff is a spoon addict. We both use the 1/2 oz. Berry's Flexit Spoon. Blue metal fleck is our best color, but white and chartreuse or good too. He probably caught half of his on the spoon. One we get into a school of them we often switch to the spoons. We have caught Striper, LM, Crappie, and catfish on them as well. We just bounce them right off the bottom.
