Sounds like a fun time on the water even if the fishing did stink a little. Woulda loved seeing some pictures. Maybe next time.![]()
First report in a long time and the first trip to Russell in a few years. I missed out on fishing for most of last year as I spent half of it hiking the Appalachian Trail all the way to Maine. After I got back I decided to buy a kayak and rig it for fishing. I bought a Tarpon 120 and have slowly added more gear to it; 4 rod holders, fishfinder, anchor trolley, etc. Now I've really got that fishing bug again!!
This week I decided to hit Russell and hoped I could find a creek away from the pleasure boaters. Got to the lake at 8:30, way later than hoped for but that's how it goes sometimes. Fished out of Felkel landing. Had trouble finding anything but gar until 10. Then caught 4 crappie 10 to 12' in 18 to 22 FOW on jigs and minnows. The wind picked up and had to go try some other spots. Only managed one more crappie a couple hours later right off bottom in 12 FOW. Caught a few bass and gills too but no size. Had a couple gar slap the side of my kayak during the day, one was chasing my red worm I was franticly reeling in and the other was just swimming by. That got the heart racing
Had a good time and hopefully I wont forget the camera next time!

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Good to hear you hit Russell in the yak. Wanting to go fish the trees there myself, maybe soon. Glad you got to feel the pull on your line a few times always a plus! Thanks for the report![]()
