Do you longline in the fall? At what water temps do you start longlining and do you do it on up into winter?
Storm, I book marked that site thanks for the info. I'll have to try them.

For me its about where the fish are staged. Once they move off brush and start moving out to main lake. Each lake is different but I know several fishermen that longline all year long and catch fish. In tourneys we usually start once the water starts warming up to @ 55 degrees from winter months.
If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D

I too have never tried longlining. A friend here does. But I have never tried. I will have to try that sometime. I usually find a school, back off and fish it. Longlining--something to put on my to do list.

Here's one for you. My dad back in the late 50's and early 60's used to fish Lake Wylie (especially Seven Oaks) and he would troll for Crappie. He would use a Cat's Paw Hook ( a leader hook with a spinner and beads), and on the hook he would use Uncle Josh Bass Strips (Cut the strips into short pieces and then shred one end into a lot of little tails). He would start in the back of the creek and troll toward the mouth of the creek using this bait and would usually catch more than enough to feed his wife and four boys. He used a spin cast reel on a 5 foot rod, a 5 hp. Johnson on a rented wooden boat. About as simple as it gets.
Cool story.

They must have outlawed longlining in SC because there has not been one post in over seven months, no new insight, or the fish finally figured out what y'all were doing.
