    Default Night Stalkers question

    Guys,
Do you think it's possible to have too many lights around your boat on a night stalk? I guess all the lights add up but I'm talking mostly about the lights in the water or floating on the water. My thinking is that crappie are secretive hunters and don't want a ton of light around the boat. But I'm not sure. Last night I eventually unplugged about 1/2 my in the water lights and it seems to have helped a bit. What do you think? thanks, BrettW

On some nights there has been so much bait around that I'd fish only using the overhead light in the boat WITHOUT ever putting a light in the water. The submersible lights can sometimes draw in too much bait IMO giving the crappies a hard time trying to find your minner. Normally though, if somebody was fishing with me we'd each have a light and if I were by myself I'd put out 1 light.

Ditto with Bowman. If there is two or more each one gets a light in the water. If by myself only one. Hope to test that theory tommorrow night !

I used to have 1 submerged light out each side of the boat and a lantern hanging off the stern.. Helped light my rods. Now I burn a light out each side until I start getting bait, then turn 1 off. I dont bring the lantern anymore. Really like the leds to light my rods.

Well according to you guys, I had way too many lights out. I must of had 5 plus 3 lights so I could see my rods.

Brett, with my rod tips painted flat white I only needed 1 overhead light to be able to see my rod tips. The submersible also helped shine my rods since it was barely under the surface. My partner would also have an overhead and a submersible.

brettw i have used all the lights on the market float lights lanterns sinking lights green and white green hydro glows 2ft 4ft and generator and 2 500 watt lights 400 watt high pressure sodium lights 12 volt light bulbs spot lights and some i cant think off right now im sure they all have their time and place on a dark moon the less light you will need brighter the moon the more light you need because the moon light scatters the bait all over the lake surface and makes it harder to draw in to your lights

my boat has a green light over head to see inside, but we always fish with each person useing a submersible and a clamp on shining out to see the tips/line......i guess each situation is more a prefference than anything. we bout always bring a mess home for the freezer!!!!!!!!! just my $.02
