Thanks Rango, I will play with it the next time out.
you can set the upper and lower limits you want the unit to display. the upper number would be how deep it is before the unit begins showing what its seeing. the lower number will be the depth it records to before it quits showing what its recording. if im fishing where the water averages 35 or 40 ft, i will set the lower number on 50 and the upper number at the depth i want it to start recording. i usually set mine at 5 ft, to cut down on the surface clutter. if you put the unit on auto, the upper number will be 0, the surface and the lower number will be the bottom depth. i seldom run my unit on auto

here's a big bait ball with striper striking through it pick up a few on this one
Thanks for the great info:D i cant wait to play with mine to get it better
Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.
Here's a couple stripers underneath my herring near the bottom. Look close and you'll see my weight running about 23' deep with the herring underneath. The wider almost vertical lines is just interference from the depth finder running on the front of the boat with mine running on the back of the boat.

You guys should consider archiving this entire thread and the link

One of the most thorough discussions of the subject... Lucky I stumbled onto it. (wandered from Missouri). Maybe a sticky on the electronics forum... Just an idea.
I did something wrong...The link doesn't work when I click it here but it works when I click it on the previous page of this thread. I'm too computer illiterate to figure it out... Help!

theres lots of great info in this thread. it gives some good insight into how others interpret what they are seeing on their units and not a lot of technical mumbo jumbo like the user manuals put out.

Rango, I agree... I didn't mean the thread should be discontinued...just the opposite. I meant it should be preserved because of all the info.... and I was looking for a way to let everyone (from all states) know where to find it.
if the mod on the electronics board wants to link to this thread that would be great. i dont wanna move it since its been our most popular and most read thread.

What do you all think the stuff is along the bottom? It goes from about 18ft deep to the bottom(25ft).
