Here is one of a humminbird 987c-SI split screen. And it allows you to see what a tree looks like on the standard unit.
Also the side imaging side I split the tree. So it shows on each side.

Here is a link to the VA board where I posted some SONAR screen captures with my interpretations.

Yep and excited i was!
anybody out there got the HB 717?
i'm having trouble getting the unit fine tuned for lake murray and could use some help.
I have a questine about what my ff was doing last night. Its an Eagle Strata, dont remember the model, $99 at wally world 10 years ago. I was anchored in 27' with a soft bottom, no brush or other structure under me. The ff was on auto depth range but everything else was manual. For 2 hours back and forth a dark mass would start to fill the screen, the ff would beep and change from the 0-40 range to the 0-20 range and show depth at 3-7 feet. I saw bait fish near the suface throughout the evening. Could it be possable to have so many fish under the boat that the ff thought it was the bottom, or am I starting to have ff problems? Ive never had this happen before.
It was shad. And youre right, the shad was so thick the signal couldnt get past them, thus showing a false bottom. And I'd bet that as the big ball of shad moved out from the transducer the bottom would re-appear at 27' deep. It's not uncommon at all for me to see shad from 5-15' deep on the finder, sometimes more. Usually when there's that much bait the bite slows or almost stops, Guess the crappie have too much to pick from instead of my minners.:o
