First of all, welcome to the boards! I promise you that there is a lot of information to take in on this site. If you do a little reading, it WILL make you a better fisherman. Look forward to seeing some more posts about Murray. That is really the only lake I fish and there aren't too many people that post reports on Murray.
The hottest bite that I've heard about is on brush piles in the midlake area. My buddy was catching some nice messes on brush piles in Bear Creek using minnows fished about 10 foot down in 20 FOW.
I do most all of my fishing up in the river. The Little Saluda. I've been catching fish at all depths from 4 ft-17 ft using a 10 pole, 4 lb test line, and a 1/64th oz jig. Just drop the jig into brush piles and around stickups that you see along side and in the channel. You can even do this around bridge pilings and docks and catch fish. The size isn't what it is in the spring right now, but you can definitely still put fresh fish on the table.
Good Luck and I hope you get on them. The latter tactic would work down the lake if you could find a creek run that had some logs and other trash in it. The bigger the wood the better for me so far!
