    Default Memorial Day

Memorial Day has come to be known as the kick-off to the summer season, a day away from work and school, one filled with cook-offs, concerts, and festivals. However, Memorial Day was created for a more solemn purpose.

Originally called "Decoration Day," Memorial Day was created in 1865 to honor the men and women who died during the Civil War. After World War I, the purpose was expanded to include all American war casualties.

As we enjoy our "free" day , let's keep in mind the sacrifices made by generations of Americans.

I think it's a darned shame it's a "party" day for most folks.
I was in the Marine Band, in DC for 20 yrs. Did tons of funerals for vets and active duty. These guys deserve a day of rememberance and a President that honors them, not goes on vacation.

    John 15:13 (King James Version)

13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Many lives have been sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy. My dad was a career military man who was very proud of his service and his country. I learned to appreciate what all military families sacrifice for this country and I challenge each of you to thank someone for their service during this Memorial day weekend. “We the People" must be the ones to take back our country and not sit idly by and allow those who seek to destroy it, to do so. God Bless America and those who serve it and have served it so faithfully!

    Default Freedom

I agree we should all take a little time to reflect or what it truly means to be free. As a Marine Vet of 1-war and 2-conflicts, I never forget what our boys overseas are going through each and every day. I also wonder what they will be doing on their Memorial Day while most of America is Partying, Drinking, and Having a good time.

With that said, here is a little poem, that helps sum up what Freedom really cost:

    Freedom Isn't Free
    by Major Kelly Strong USAF

I watched the flag pass by one day
    It fluttered in the breeze
A young soldier saluted it, and then
    He stood at ease

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd

I thought how many men like him
    Had fallen through the years
How many died on foreign soil?
    How many mothers' tears?

How many Pilots' planes shot down?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
    No - Freedom isn't free

I heard the sound of taps one night,
    When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
    And felt a sudden chill

I wondered just how many times
    That Taps had meant "Amen"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
    Of fathers, sons and husbands
    With interrupted lives

I thought about a graveyard at the
    Bottom of the sea
    Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
    No - Freedom isn't free!

most people would quit after 10 minutes of doing what our troops and Marines do EVERYDAY, it's 110 degrees in Iraq right now, plug gear, plus can't shoot back
Meanwhile, we've being invaded at home with the red carpet being rolled out.
