Anyway, I've been chasing hot brake issues, and I knew drum brakes were not great, but they were in the rear, and how much braking really happens back there. Well, when your wheel cylinder for your drum brakes are 100% frozen (rusted), guess what, your front brakes are gonna get hot. I renewed just about everything and when I would do a test drive and brake hard, the front wheels would get hot. Finally I looked inside the read drum brake cylinders and found nothing but rust! lol

Drum brakes are just overly complex, and it's a balancing act putting them back together. And when you're all done, you still think that maybe it ain't just right! dono Just way too much to go wrong, or at least not be exactly right! Yeah right, the auto adjusters with that weak little ramp, and the cable that keeps coming off said ramp is gonna work just perfect, NOT!

Anywho, I replaced the cylinders and finally have four wheels with brakes that don't get crazy hot when I use them! yay me

Pinched finger waiting to happen with those, at least in my limited experience. Glad you got it figured out.

Good job. That rust did a number on them I can see.

Great call on “replacing” those wheel cylinders. Normally I just rebuild them but those were shot. I’m also a fan of changing brake fluid as it attracts moisture.

Drum Brake servicing, Just Nasty. I don't care for Drum Brake servicing either. Slab spring pliers and a keeper lock driver makes reassembly much easier. Rock Auto sells the Power Stop brakes real reasonable. I've installed Power Stop brakes on everything I own here, wonderful stopping power. Glad you have brakes, its kinda necessary.
