Bummer. Hopefully it can be stopped and protected against further rust.
Turns out I bought a rust bucket. I knew it was too good to be true. The car looked great from the outside. And even the underneath. The car has undercoating which hid it. I shoulda poked it with a screw driver. But still, there's really very little rust that's made holes all the way through. So I think it'll be alright. I just have to stop the cancer from expanding. I think fluid film might be the answer but I'm not sure. For now I'll just get it out of the weather and continue with the transmission while I research the best way to address this.

I have battled rust my whole life. I've done it the POR-15 way, and the Rust Reformer way. I'm leaning towards the Fluid Film way. Just have to spray the undercarriage every year. Which is fine by me, as the Jeep is easy to get under!
There are two reasons I'm leaning towards Fluid Film. 1), it creeps, as far as 2 inches or more. It'll get itself into the cracks and crevice's that would be impossible to get to unless you completely sand blasted the car and started from scratch. Check out this video: Fluid Film Black vs Fluid Film - Are They Identical? - Undercoat Review & Comparison Test - YouTube
And 2), none of the Rust Reformer or POR-15 ways are long lasting. There's always some rust molecules left behind. Never can get rid of all that cancer without going way overboard on a restore, way more than I want to attack. Particularly with rust all where you can see it on this Jeep. The Fluid Film "self heals" and creeps, kinda creepy, but cool!
I like the lazy mans way of using Fluid Film, and just reapplying it from underneath every year. I just don't know about using on the inside. After spraying the floor on the inside, will it creep up the carpeting, and I end up with an oil soaked carpet! dono, Maybe I cover it somehow with some that stick on aluminum foil sound insulation stuff so it does not creep up the carpet. Thinking out loud here!
And heck, I just found this, same as Fluid Film I believe. So I got a whole quart of the stuff already. I've had it for a long time, just never used it, hope it's still good, can't believe that it'd spoil, right!

Picture story of carpeting removal.
A nod to "Vice Grip Garage" guy on Youtube I've been watching a bit of lately. I love that guy. Well I'll be dipped.

Good pics
Have you thought about using Naval Jelly on the inside rust ? Then coating and re-carpeting…
