Hey y'all. Got a garmin livescope on the way. Trying to decide best place for transducer. Should I mount it on ultrex trolling motor with existing helix mega si or on a separate stick? Any suggestions?

Following,
I've been researching this very question for a week now.
So far, here is what I've gathered:
If you primarily spider rig, mount in on the trolling motor as you are primarily looking ahead almost all of the time.
If you shoot docks, cast to piles. or single pole off the side of the boat, mount it on a separate pole so you can turn it to the direction you want to see INDEPENDENT of the trolling motor which may be in spot lock mode and spinning all over the place.
I'm just getting started on my research so this is only what I've heard so far.
Another BIG question for me is:
Where do you mount the black box?
I'm leaning towards mounting it under the console near the fuse box on my RT188c, I don't think it has to be a dry location but I don't want to be stepping on cables or connections either.
Makes sense. I do both. Can you run livescope and helix at the same time or will there be interference / cross talk?

if you have livescope on front than you do not need another unit at front, you can see all around you with livescope so other units at front is useless, imo

From someone who first mounted my Panoptix PS 22 on my Ulterra and then removed it and put it on a separate mount independent of my trolling motoer when I changed to the Livescope last June I would NEVER mount it on my tolling motor again.
The cone angle is very narrow and you will need to decide what you want to see and when. I do a lot of spider rigging and changing my view every time I have to change the heading of the trolling motor to adjust for wind , current, was not good at all. With it mounted on the separate mounting pole I can keep the same direction view ( watching my baits) no matter what I do with my trolling motor. Also the cone is so narrow that you can't see your entire spread when spider rigging you are going to see just 2-3 rods depending on the rod spacing and rod length. I am installing a second unit on my bow as we speak, also mounted on a separate pole to allow my partner to view some baits on his side of the bow. I used the Fishing Specialties with the adjustable rod and the removable base plate and it works really well. I am duplicating the same set up for the second unit.
By being mounted separate of the trolling motor it also allows me to look to the side or anywhere I want when I want without turning the trolling motor head. Many times I have been spider rigging down a bank and turned livescope to look at docks or trees as I passed them without ever changing what I was doing with the trolling motor going straight ahead. After 5 months of pantoptix on my trolling motor and then 4 moves of on a separate pole I will never have it on my trolling motor again for how I fish.

I will have 3 units on the bow when completed this weekend, 2 93SV's with livescope and one Lowrance touch 9 just for mapping and 2D sonar on the trolling motor that is built in.
If you mount the livescope on a pole I strongly encourage you to get the modification that allows you to eliminate the 8 deg cant in the mount. It will make it easier for you to see your smaller baits. Again a narrow cone you are working with, the more vertical it is the easier to stay n the cone.

Interesting stuff. The LS is on my list so have been researching options too. LS is 20 degrees from what I can find. I have seen no interference issues in my research.

I am not worried about interference of having two live scope units operating on my bow. I am not the first to do this and and I talked with Garmin about potential problems before proceeding.
With a 20 deg cone angle the diameter of the cone is only 3'-6" at 10", 5'-5" at 15' and 7-3" at 20 ft. The strongest returns will be in the center of the cone diameter. That is why for me, they way I fish, and 4 months of use last year, mounting the transducer on the trolling motor is counterproductive to the capabilities of Livescope. The chances of your trolling motor always being pointed at what you want to see and remaining aimed at what you want to see is just not reality. The trolling motor is there to control the boat, it doesn't function very well as being the primary tool to determine the direction of livescope when it's primary purpose is boat positioning. You will find yourself compromising boat control to maintain the direction of view on Livescope or vice versa, been there done that. I'm sure others will have differing experiences and opinions, but for me it is an easy choice.
