    Default Waypoints?

Have a HB 998 at the console and when I mark spots, we're havin a little trouble getting the boat back over the spot. As we approach waypoint on map, it always seems that we're headed right for it then we'll end up driving by it. Should we be usin trolling motor or am I doin something wrong?

I have Lowrance hds9 and had the same problem till I got a point 1 external antenna..... it updates a lot faster. That made a big difference for me.

If marking Waypoints in SI - there will always be some margin of inherent error when trying to return to the Waypoint on the Chart view ...

1st - the GPS antenna should always be as close as possible to the xducer that's collecting the Sonar data ...

2nd - one should always return to that Waypoint (marked in SI) using the 2d and set another more accurate Waypoint when the structure in known to be directly under the xducer ...

3rd - delete the Waypoint that was created in SI ...

Rickie[/QUOTE When I'm making structure with structure scan I use a waypoint symbol I don't normally use. When I go back over the waypoints and mark them with the 2d sonar I use my regular symbol. After marking them all on 2d I go to my waypoint list and delete all waypoints marked with the first symbol.

Is the heading sensor set on heads up ? Make map rotate around to direction boat is moving . North up can mess you up , going south about like looking in a mirror .

That's a great idea for Waypoint management Lowe ...

Rickie and Lowe-rider are sharing some great points there. How far something is away from the ducer on SI or SV is not always just straight out to the side. If you are in deeper water that 50 ft to the side may be at an angle. May be only 30 ft horizontally to the side but down several ft in the column making a total of 50 to the ducer, including the angle.
