    Default Problem with 899

Hey guys I have a hummingbird 899 and when the fish finder is on for longer then 5 mins or so my depth and side/down image and sonar freeze up sometimes the scroll slows down really slow, my depth goes crazy when this happens as well. I thought it was my transducer so I bought a new one an still having the same problem. Just wondering if any of y'all know what the problem may be?

I would say you are having a power problem. Check to make sure the voltage you are getting is enough. The small wires that the boat companies supply are sometimes not big enough so try connecting a larger size wire straight to you battery with the correct size fuse and see if this is the problem before giving up. Or find someone with the same unit setup and swap out to see if it is your sonar or just your power problem.

If the 859 is just a 2d unit it will be fine to try it. Just select the 200/83 kw transducer on the 899 to try it. But if it is a down imaging unit I don't think you can as the transducer will be a difference as 859 down imaging and 899 down imaging are not the same so they don't use the same type transducers.

In addition to scrat's good info if your unit is the 859 sonar unit ...:
    -----

If the 859 is the DI model ...:

Set the 859 DI to "DI 200/83kHz" then power it down and remove it from the bow ...

Then plug the cable collector from the 899 (at the console) into the 859 and power the 859 on ...

*If the 859 also acts weird = there's an issue with the power circuit to the console (wires, connections, fuse, battery) ...

*If the weirdness goes away = there's an issue with the 899 ...

And test in the water... because it's normal for the sonar to "slow down" when the xducer is not in the water (while it waits for a bottom return) ...
