From the images I have seen it does seem like the fish show up a lot better on SI ..... especially when the zoom is that amazing.

IT SEEMS TO LOOK BETTER THAN 99'S BUT IT WOULD SURE BE NICE TO HAVE BOTH UNITS ON SAME BOAT AND RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME ,SAME SIZE SO WE COULD REALLY COMPARE EACH.THE REASON I SAY THIS IS I HAVE A 1199 AND FRIEND GOT THE HELIX 10 WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE SO MUCH BRIGHTER,WELL I COULD NOT SEE ENOUGHT DIFFERENT TO SAY WHICH LOOK THE BEST.I DO KNOW WHEN MOST PIC'S ARE PUT ON THE BOARD THAT IT IS SOME OF THE PERSON'S BEST AND THEN WE ARE TO COMPARE IT WITH OUR ADVERGE PIC,NOT COMPLAINING ,JUST WANT TO COMPARE IT ON EQUAL TERMS

Seems like the mega gets pretty dark past 70 feet or so. Most of the images I have seen scanning 90 or 100 feet have pretty dark edges. Makes me think that 1200 really doesnt reach out that far even with the chirp.

I copied this from another thread.
455kHz Side Imaging provides 800 ft of side to side coverage.
455kHz Down Imaging works to a depth of 400 feet.
1.2 MHz Side Imaging provides 250 feet of side to side coverage.
1.2 MHz Down Imaging works to a depth of 125 feet

Higher frequency attenuates (absorbs in water) faster than lower frequency ...

I was told by a HB rep that CHIRP enabled the 1200kHz SI to get usable data out to 90-125ft ...

He said 1200kHz continuous wave (not CHIRP) they tested was only getting usable data out to 40-60ft ...
    -----

Just like any frequency choice - each choice a tool for a specific task ... higher frequency is for greater detail closer to the boat ... not greater range ...

When using 1200kHz CHIRP Mega = set the SI range to 60ft and the image will be brighter all the way to the edge of the display ...

Only time I ever have mine set past 40-60ft is when I'm scanning new water. When I'm fishing familiar water the unit is set on 50ft looking for fish. We will have to use 455 to find cover past 60, them use Mega for a closer look.

I'm very excited about finally having dedicated DI with SI without having to step up to the Onix.

Just used my Helix 9 MEGA for the second time yesterday and agree the 1200 freq doesn't give you a real good image past 70' each side. Having said that, within the 140' boundary, the images are superb. I played with the settings last Friday to get a feel for it but started seeing bright little dots only on the right side.. couldn't figure out what I did so I just reset it back to default yesterday morning while fishing Lake Talquin.

Once I figure out how to take snapshots and videos, I'll post some I the SI/DI forum. I need to read the manual I caught a big school of fish suspended over flooded timber yesterday while on 1200 and wished knew how to take a snapshot.

There is a setting to turn snapshots on .... then when you mark a waypoint, a snapshot is automatically taken.......Make sure you have an SD card in the unit that can be written to when you do the snapshot. If you try to mark a waypoint and the SD card is not in place, the unit won't mark the waypoint if snapshot it turned on.

Here's an old video on how to do it .... but things haven't changed much, although I think the newer software releases allow you to take a snapshot without saving a waypoint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwZR...ure=plpp_video
