    Default waypoint/link question

I have a HB 859 on the bow and HB899 on the console that are linked together. I am needing to enter a bunch of waypoints manually while I am at home. If I enter them into one of the units will they show on the other and do I have to have both units on while I enter the waypoints on one unit for them to show up on both?

Also, it seems that if I don't have both units on while I am fishing and hit "mark" on the unit that is on, the waypoint that I "mark" will have a numbered big blue dot on the screen. Then when I turn on the other unit it will show a small blue dot for that way point and it will not show a number for that small blue dot. Is that the way it is supposed to work?

    Thanks for any responses.

You are correct on all counts ..... You only need to have they waypoints in one unit as long as they are Ethernet connected and both have waypoint sharing turned on.

It might be easier to manually enter the waypoints using Humminbird PC, which can be downloaded from your Humminbird account. HBPC is also a good way to have your waypoints backed up in case the unit you have them loaded in bites the dust.

+1 You don't have to have both units powered on while you are entering the new waypoints.

So, if I enter the waypoints on HBPC, do I then download them on a sim card to put in one of the units?

Download to a SD card, start your HB Unit, then plug in your card. It will ask you if you want to download the data from the card into your unit - Click "Yes".

I would consider getting an extra HB power cable, a/c adapter and fuse so you can your units at home in your lazyboy. You can get er done for about $20.
Are the waypoints you are loading manually in digital form anywhere? Do you have access to the internet?
Once a waypoint is entered in either unit they will be shared as long as waypoint sharing is enabled on both units and both units are on.

I seldom run 2 units at once; to much noise. When I am searching; I mark the waypoint on my 999 (console), drop trolling motor, turn on tm mounted 859, wait for shared waypoint pop up on 859, find whatever it is I marked and mark it up front on 859 so I can shut off console 999. That way its on each individual unit.

If you don't have digital you could go to Google Earth set it to the datum you need (tools-options) ,then find the lake that you have the coordinates of and scroll around to the individual coor's saving them to "my places", run them thru gps babel, load them in HBPC, load them on SD card, then load them on or units.

+1 You don't have to turn the console unit completely off. You can avoid crosstalk and still allow the waypoint sharing from console unit to bow unit by just turning sonar (transmission) off on console unit.

Good to know ez. Never done it before. I am not worried about crosstalk just audible noise. Does it totally silence the transducer ; no di,si or 2d pings? Main menu under sonar I assume?

Easy was it to do a quick press of the power button .....it will be right there with brightness setting.
