Default New 899 transducer exchange washout issues

I just bought a new humminbird 899 and took it out yesterday. I am currently using the compact si transducer that came with my helix 5. I had a terrible time trying to get it dialed in. At first the screen was completely washed out. I have never seen anything like it. As the day progressed the images started slowly improving. I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my unit or if there was something in the lake. I have had several locals tell me they had the same problem in the lake recently. Anyways I had great pics before I left the lake but I had to turn the contrast up to 15 which is odd to me.
I am sending the transducer that came with the unit in to humminbird and swapping for the hdsi transducer. I have read that the 800 khz does not work on 899's and that I will probably have to send the unit in to Humminbird. Is this true or is it possible that my unit is not affected? I heard that it was 2014 models. My units serial number starts with a 14 so I am pretty sure it is a 2014 model. How do you tell the model year? Any help is appreciated.

I sent mine back for the wash out problem. Just call Humminbird Customer Service with your serial number and detailed your problem and they will know if your unit is one that needs sending in for this problem. You can read this where I asked all my questions.

The 800kHz imaging frequency will work with the 899 with the upgrade XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...(It's the XNT 9 SI 180 T Compact SI that cannot utilize the 800kHz) ...

To determine when your specific unit was manufactured ... :

The first 2 digits in the serial number is the year ...
The next 2 digits are month ...
The next 2 digits are the day ...

Like scrat mentioned ... Call HB with your unit serial number ... They will determine if your specific unit needs to be repaired for the washout issue ...

    Default New HD Transducer

[So I got my new transducer in and installed it. I took it out to test it and fully believed I would have to send my unit in for service. The unit works flawlessly and displayed some of the best SI pics I have ever seen. I will upload pics at a later date. I love the 899.QUOTE=justatrollin;3188577]Thanks Scrat and Rickie.[/QUOTE]
