I looked up the wrong manual to start with but it sounds like you turned the sonar off. Look on page 114 not 131
    HUMMINBIRD: OPERATION/PRODUCT MANUALS

Local Sonar Settings: Off, On, Default = On
"Local Sonar sets whether the Sonar views are shown in the View rotation.Select Off to deactivate Sonar and remove the Sonar Views from the View rotation.NOTE: This feature may appear as either Sonar or Local Sonar, depending on your model". This is what it says on page 114. I hope this helps.

You may want to restore defaults like the post above said.

Restore DefaultsSettings: Press the RIGHT Cursor key and followscreen instructions to activate.Use this menu choice with caution!Restore Defaults resets ALL menu settings to their factory defaults. this is on Page 110.
Be safe and good luck fishing

    *Power on the unit ...
*Press Menu at the HB splash screen ...
*Choose "System Status" from the 3 choices in the popup ...

Does it show "Transducer Connected" ...??

If it shows the transducer as "Not Connected" ... You have 2 options ...

    1. Cross test with another xducer or head unit ...

    2. Call HB to see about getting another xducer ...

I had the same symptom with my 898 recently. No DI, SI or Sonar, only GPS. Took me a month of asking and trying different things, then finally I woke up in the middle of the night and realized that I updated to newer software version, (which I have done many times) and forgot to delete the previous update file from my SD card...........OPERATOR ERROR!!! Deleted the older update off the card and everything started working again!

While I totally agree with removing older .bin files from the SD Card ... I do not understand how an older .bin file would keep the sonar views from showing ...

It had me totally bumfuzzeled until I saw a post on Humminbird Facebook page by a guy telling someone how to update his unit. He told him to be sure to delete any previous .bin files on his card. He didn't say why, just to do it. That got me thinking and I checked my card. Sure enough, had 2 .bin files......I deleted the older one, plugged the card in, it went though the update process, and found the Tducer! - worked ever since!

I would suspect a bad transducer, cable or plug. Obviously it is not reading the transducer. Check the cable for cuts. Factory reset could help.

Hooray! Sonar is back! No idea how but Sonar was turned off. Press the power button momentarily as if you were going to adjust brightness and first tab at the top gives sonar on/off selection. Thanks to everyone so much for all the input and help.
