Default Water column in SI view; show it or not?

Just curious if there are major advantages either way. I tend to show it as it seems to help me visualize the bottom better. I haven't actually compared it while on the water but using the simulator on the HB the view with no water column seems harder to interpret.

    Any thoughts?

I seldome use contour mode. I use the water column to easily identify fish. It is much easier to identify fish with the dark background of the water column.

Contour Mode sometimes helps visualize distances away from the boat easier due to less compression correction of the SI image ...

Notice how the 1st few feet of the bottom detail away from the water column is compressed to allow room in the SI image for the water column ...

I've started using the contour mold, while looking for blue gill beds.i like it .it's like rckie was saying it makes it easier to determine the distance . I'm finding myself using it more and more. I'm also starting to use it on the 360 just to get more use able imaging from the scale view I'm using (or something like that)

When in side image view, go to side image enhance then turn on contour mode.
