    Default Waypoint ID ??

I have just installed a HB 899 hd ci si on my console and HB 859 hd ci on the bow and have them ethernetted together. I am completely new to the GPS / waypoint features. I have noticed that when I hit "mark" to make a new waypoint- sometimes that waypoint will show up on the navigation chart with a number assigned- i.e W0010-and sometimes it will not. The 899 has the Navionics Plus chip and the 859 just has standard HB navigation software. Sometimes if I* mark something on the console unit, it will be numbered but will not show as a number on the bow unit- but just show as a blue dot.

I am usually just hitting "mark" when I see something on down imaging that I want to save, in other words I am not freezing the screen, moving the curser to a spot, and then hitting " Mark". Since I don't know how to identify the waypoints that are un-numberred, I am wondering how I can select one to delete or name it?? Can you put the curser over a blue dot and do something to open a waypoint dialog box to delete or name it?

    Thx

Yes you can place the cursor over a waypoint and rename or delete it (and some other options as well) goblerblaster. Check your units to see if the Waypoint Decluttering menu is set to “On” or “Off”. If it is on the unit will not display the names of all waypoints and/or may show them as blue dots instead of a different waypoint icon.

Thanks, Greg. I will try that. If I "mark" a spot on my 899 and lets say it numbers it as "w009" will it also show as "w009" on my bow mount 859 assuming I have both units turned on when the mark button is hit on the console unit??

When I got to the menue under "navigation" I can see the de-clutter waypoints tab with an arrow to the bottom right. When I hit the right curser arrow, nothing happens- no additional menu to select from- but I can see the contour lines on the chart disappear for maybe 10 seconds- then they re- appear. Is the menu supposed to be giving me the option to de=clutter - yes or no= or is that the way it is supposed to work?

I am still having waypoint "dots" on the screen that do not have any identifying numbers on them no matter how close or far away from them the boat is located. Other waypoints show up on the same chart screen shot with number s on them.

There are 2 separate declutter menu choices ...

One is the "Chart Declutter" menu choice ... Which is under the NAV Xpress menu (1 Menu button press while viewing a map view) ... This clears most of the data layers on the map for 10 seconds so that close related waypoints do not get blended in with all the chart data and makes the waypoints easier to see (but just for 10 seconds and then all the chart layers come back) ...

The other menu choice Greg mentions is the "Waypoint Declutter" menu choice ... Which is under the NAV tab in the main menu system ... This setting is either On or Off and it hides some of the names on the waypoints to "declutter" the map view ... (I still don't know how the unit determines which waypoints to hide the name and which it does not ) ...

Waypoints that have an "S" prefix means you captured a screenshot at that location and the unit automatically applied a waypoint at that same location ...
