SI outboard motor detection

So how does SideImaging not detect the outboard motor when the Tducer is mounted to the side of the o.b. motor on the transom?

fel, this link will tell you more about it. Remember though, SI is a thin slice or beam shooting left and right. When using SI there is no need for the motor to be lowered as you would running down the lake...this will cause interference on your returns. Also you will see in the link images how adjusting the motor will also show up.

It does pick up the ob. In this image it's clearly visible, just to the left of center is a thin white line.

And when the left side beam reflects off the motor you get a double image.

The Lowrance will be affected less in this situation as the beam is 30 degrees surpressed which means that the beam is coming off the ducer at 30 degrees.
This info is from one of the transducers design engineers. Obviously it depends on how close the transducer is mounted to the motor lower unit.
