    Default Shadows

I went out for an hour and a half before work today to continue playing with my Helix 5. I noticed that most of the standing images cast a shadow on the back side of the image but some cast a shadow in front. I am not familiar with this, can someone please explain. I will post some pics of these occurances.

The Si sonar cannot cast a shadow in front of it (closer to the transducer) no more than a flashlight could do the same. There has to be an object between the transducer and the shadow there that is causing the shadow.

Those objects that "look like" the shadow in front ...is a hole in the bottom of the lake ...

The SI beam is traveling sideways at an angle ... And the sound pulse cannot "see" (reflect off of) the front lip of the hole ...

Good "catch" Rickie (pun intended), I forgot about a hole in the lake bottom.
