    Default Proposed Test

Kosmo and others who like to experiment-
I've been over on the "crappie cover" forum looking at some of the fish cover they build and install, because I'd like to do something at a local spot. The problem is these guys all say that PVC is about the same density as water, so it is basically invisible in the water to SI and DI. I was hoping that would be a challenge some of you might like to prove or disprove. Kosmo's pics showing ping pong balls makes me wonder if PVC will show up if it is closed up with air inside....basically a giant ping pong ball. I'm sure no one wants to try and sink a PVC thing that is completely sealed up, but what if each piece of cover had just one piece sealed? Would that show up? I guess if you wanted to see it on DI, you would want a horizontal piece....maybe 2" x 18" to show up and be distinctive. I don't know if you would want a vertical piece for SI, or if the same horizontal piece would be just as good?
What do you guys think? Has this already been done?

Gene- thanks for directing me there.....that is obviously made from PVC and it's a good shot! In post #4 of that thread, the poster wondered if algae was giving the pic, rather than the PVC....what do you think? How long was that PVC in there before the pic?
I'm going to see if I can find any pics BamaS might have put up with metal inside the PVC

    thanks!

Kosmo- I think a guy could just plug the ends with mud and grab a few shots right after dropping them to see if it would work, don't you? Cork would work, saran wrap with rubber bands would do it for a while.....dowel rod with some RTV around it?

I'm so bad at fishing, I might as well do some experimenting!! LOL

I set out three pvc "porcupines" in one area and still to this day can only make out a faint image of them on SI when I near them. Can not make them out at all on DI though. Wish I would have thought to plug one of the pipes to try this. Will be interesting to see replies.
