Default 1st time recording and using Humviewer questions

I'll include a snapshot from Humviewer to illustrate my 1st question. This is a snap from a recording being played back in HV. The right side of the SI, in all 6 recordings done that day, show a different clarity of the water column from the left side; there is no such difference in the playback when I review it on my 598. Can anyone offer any insight on what I'm doing wrong?
This is the supplied transducer mounted to the transom, just off center to the right side of the keel line. I'm pushing the boat stern first to keep my oar strokes out of the display.

2nd question, if someone were interested in taking a look at this recording to see if it looks the same on their unit or version of HV, what portion of the file or what file extensions would need to be sent along? I see folders with the recording number on it with various files and extensions in there, as well as DAT files and XML files. This recording is about 8 minutes long

3rd question: I marked various waypoints as I went along, simply to remind myself that there was something interesting there that I wanted to look closer at. I have the box to show waypoints checked but I don't see any indicators on the HV playback; what should I be looking for?

I'm using version 86 of Humview.

If the cloudiness in not showing on your unit ...there is something in Humviewer causing this ...

    2. I will PM you my email address ...

When you open the RECORD folder on the card ...there will be a folder labeled R0001 and a .DAT file right under it ... I need the .DAT file ... Can you zip the entire RECORD folder ...?? I can extract it out myself ...

    3. There should be a small red diamond at the point in the SI image where you marked the waypoint ...

Did you select Waypoint in the Utilities button and then click some where on the image to set the waypoint ...??

    PM incoming.

Regarding the waypoint, it seems that HV will allow me to make new points using the procedure you describe but doesn't show the ones I made as I went along.
Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding how it will work. I'll play it again a few times.

Thanks for your help. I'm getting the hang of it; its the details that are getting me.
    Ken

Edit to add: In HV, under the "Tools" tab, the "show way points" and "show user tracks" are not enabled for me. The option to create a way point as you described above works if I want a new one; can't seem to display the ones made on the water.

    Hey Ken ...

Here is the snapshot from my Humviewer using your .DAT file ...

I think you have something going on either in the unit or in the xducer and it's just not showing as prevalent on the unit itself ... (Humviewer uses different processing to render the recording than the unit does)..

Do you have access to another SI unit where you could test your unit on their xducer or their unit on your xducer ...??

Unfortunately, no I don't. I fish on my own most of the time; don't know anyone else who has any electronics.
    Hmmmmmmmm........
You have the same results I do; I went through all the color schemes and it show up in them all and it shows up at any playback speed as well.
Thanks for taking a close look at it.

Now the waypoints in Humviewer ...

Humviewer will not show the waypoints that you created in the HB unit ... Waypoints go directly into the HB unit memory and are not part of the recording data being written to the card...

The "Show Waypoints" under the "Tool" tab in Humviewer will not be active until you actually create waypoints in Humviewer ...(I think you've figured out how to create new waypoints in Humviewer)...

To export the waypoints from Humviewer ...

    Click File Export ..
Choose to "Save in" ... Someplace you can remember ...
    Enter a "File Name" ...
Then click the drop down arrow at "Files of Type" ....and choose "Humminbird files *.gpx
    Then click "Save"...
A popup should show asking what files to save ...
    Select "Waypoints"...
Unselect "Boat track" ... I don't usually save this ...
    Select "No track points"...
    Click OK ...

Then open Humminbird PC and move this .gpx file into HBPC where you can upload to a SD Card that can then upload the Humviewer waypoints back into your HB unit ...

I suggest you play this same recording back on the unit and capture some snapshots from the recording and then post them here ...

Crank up the SI sensitivity a little hot before you capture the snapshot to maybe highlight this issue better ...

A snapshot on the unit (from the live recording you've already made) will also give Greg something he can comment on ...(the bosses won't let Greg play with Humviewer...it's espionage or something I'm sure)...

    OK, that explains that then.
I just won't worry about the waypoints during playback; I'll know where I've been pretty much on the ponds I fish.

I just checked the snapshots I took on my first trip out and I can't see any obvious clouding in any of those, even zoomed in until it get too pixelated.
May be useless information for my potential problem, though.

edit: just saw your post; could I have had the sensitivity up too high to start? I don't remember what it was set at but it was pretty clear water, calm conditions and a soft bottom; I know I was playing with it along with other settings but to be in all 6 recordings I gotta believe its not the main problem.

I replayed the recordings with the sensitivity way up and the contrast at both ends of the spectrum and I can see it now on the right side, just like in HV.
Guess I'll be contacting customer service at some point in the near future.

You will still need to capture some screenshots from the unit ... HB will want to see them ...

You can capture screenshots during the recording playback ...

During recording playback ... Press the 4way cursor to freeze the screen scroll ...
Then set the SI Sensitivity high enough to show the issue ...
Capture screenshots to SD Card ...

Sidenote: The unit will be creating a waypoint at the physical GPS antenna position of where the boat was during the recording process ...

You may want to delete these waypoints from your waypoint library (created when capturing the screenshots)...
These waypoints will have a "S" prefix assigned by the unit ...
