    Default Sonar quiz #10

Also the bearing info, is that bearing from GPS to target which would tell you the left or right and I am assuming it would always be behind the GPS for quick reference. Some times I just make things more confusing.
Your statement in blue above is correct....

No matter which way the boat is moving ("course")...nor which way the boat is facing ("heading")...:

*North (on the Earth's face) is always considered as 0/360°
*East (on the Earth's face) is always considered as 90°
*South (on the Earth's face) is always considered as 180°
*West (on the Earth's face) is always considered as 270°

The "Bearing (°) to" data box (during an "Active Cursor" function)...is referring to how many degrees (°) from North (on the Earth) is the direction of the "Active Cursor"...

In this case of my screenshot in the OP...the "Active Cursor" was 293° from North (on the Earth's face)...

This is why the "wave theory" experts have mentioned more once....

It doesn't matter much how many software upgrades are given to render better imaging....the continued lmitation of the screen resolution will always hinder more detailed displayed images...

Rickie, are you saying that si with 2d on other side ,making si only half screen can be seen as good as full screen,i don,t think thats what you are saying,is it? I have a 798 and a 998 and i had read about the pixels but thought i was miss understanding what they were saying,i am not sure what size the 2 windows are so i have not caculated how many pixels is in each unit ,but sound like 798 may have more pixels, will have to meaasure them and see which has the most.

Total pixels of the display is not as important as "Pixels per square inch" when it comes to showing more detailed images...

An extreme analogy would be to compare detail in a "square inch" that has 9 pixels vs a "square inch" that has 16 pixels...

Same amount of screen - 1 square inch....

The 16 pixel example would be more detailed because smaller pieces of data could be assigned to each of the 16 pixels...

Whereas, the 9 pixel example would have to "leave out" or possibly "average" some of the data over the 9 pixel square inch...

    So
Which machines have the most pixels per inch? And at what price point?
And how much is gained in actual images?

Brett that is actually a really good question. I hope someone can answer this. I am on road today so I don't have a way to research it

I think Brett's question is across all brands and models...(which units have the most pixels per square inch..??)...

I don't know the answer to that myself...
