Ironically (in the HB units)...the larger the screen = the lower the resolution...

The different size screens have different pixel densities.
The 798 has 31,170.5 pixels per square inch.
The 898 has 17,533.4 pixels per square inch
The 998 has 12,755.7 pixels per square inch
The 1198 has 8,858.2 pixels per square inch

So, while an echo target may show bigger on my 10.4" screen...the object would actually be more detailed on a 5" screen...

    Weird huh....??

That is just wrong. Did not know that about the pixels

I agree with using the info in the shot to target the fish at 9' and up. That is good info to start the day at the right depth but also watch for the fish to move up or down through out the day.

Ok I like that thought, but my mind just won't wrap around that idea. This is 2d sonar and it says cursor is at 102' from GPS puck or unit, right? That would be about 34 yards which is easier for me to guesstimate on the water. I didn't know 2d sonar would read that far in water this shallow. What am I missing? Also the bearing info, is that bearing from GPS to target which would tell you the left or right and I am assuming it would always be behind the GPS for quick reference. Some times I just make things more confusing.

When you activate the cursor, the display stops and the distance counter starts rolling numbers off based on speed and time. You could theoretically stop that cursor and motor away, the distance meter will just keep racking up.

    toofus explained this very well...

When the cursor is "activated", there are GPS coordinates assigned to that position of the "Active Cursor"....

Then, as the boat moves away from the location (lat, lon)...of the "Active Cursor" ...the GPS uses the current boat position (lat, lon)...to calculate the distance to the "Active Cursor"...and the degree (°) bearing to the "Active Cursor"....

Also (as toofus said)...as long as the "Active Cursor" is still "active"...the "distance to" and "bearing (°) to" will continue to cipher...

We must remember that when when the cursor is activated....the data in the boxes used for "distance to" and "bearing (°) to...is no longer about any sonar funtion of the unit...(the 2d screen scroll stops)...

Those 2 data boxes are strictly then used as GPS data...or "difference in GPS coordinates of the "Active Cursor" vs the boat's present location...
