Vertical jigging....you nailed it. Knowing how the structure lays and how the fish are relating to it. I can then use 2d and switchfire to work them out.....or at least try lol

I used a 2d and a flasher unit before getting di and now a si unit. Due to the thin beam on di I still used the flasher with it untill si with switchfire.

Now you're talking. I have a Garmin 50s at the TM. Like watching the jig and how it attracts fish.

It seems the 455kHz will give stronger echoes in both the DI from SI (stock HDSI xducer)...and with the dedicated DI xducer...

I always run my Sensitivity (2d/SI/DI) as high as the Enviromental conditions allow...and just so happens this mud bottom allowed me to Max out my Sensitivity...

Sensitivity is nothing more than a filter designed to filter unwanted echos ...the trade off for this is that Sensitivity will also filter out echoes that we would really like to see...

So, basically raising the Sensitivity is "turning down the filter" allowing more echoes to show on the display...

There is a "happy medium" of the Sensitivity setting to where too much clutter makes it difficult to tell "good echoes" from "junk echoes"...and each user has his own preference of how clear they want the image (a lot of filtered out clutter)...or an acceptable amount of clutter ("happy medium" of filtered out clutter)...

On my post #12 you can see a lot of clutter showing up in the 17 ft range , it seem if I have my sensitivity set any higher than 12 it gets worse , any ideas on whats going on here , or is it a install problem , xducer tilted or not level ? Or just the lake bottom im fishing.

to me me thats part of the fun. I ran a elite 4 and 5 but that thin beam was a bugger to keep up with in those units

Now with HB it takes the guess work out.

Still have the LX-5 for those ice trips up north though.

Now I'm looking at getting rid of those two after reading up on some things that have been covered lately and getting a HB DI/2D/GPS unit that I can link with the 898. After marking some locations in SI, I can then shut down the big motor...locations will be in the bow unit and hit them in DI. Depending on what I saw on SI or DI it will tell me how to better fish the structure.

That "clutter" starting at the 17ft range looks like thermocline to me...or something similar that would cause particles in the water at that depth...

Did you get it with the 2d ...??

Gotta fish, in # 12 pic 2 ,In tree in DI as I see it is that brush coming up in water colum is not the tree we see in SI, the DI tree is off to side of xducer and the brush Is right under xducer, the tree is lower than bottom line with shadow under it, which tell me that any structure below bottom line must be to one side and not straight over xducer, of coarse the SI tell us it is to the right, Guys is not this correct in interpreting DI ?

Turn over here was giving me long diagonal lines coming to the top in 2d. Didn't know what it was until others pointed it out.

Yours looks like a temp change
