Question Stand alone DI for SI units

After reading about guys using a stand alone DI ducer on their HB SI units I got into contact with Willette on HB chat and was told this is not recommended for my 898 HDSI. Due to being cut off from chat my Q about doing this and voiding the warranty / why it could not be used was not answered, as well as could this still be done on other units as I've seen with no problem and good results.

Who else has done this and with what units? I've seen good results and know why in reference to a dedicated DI ducer vs HDSI. My Di works good on larger / deeper stuff but stakebeds or other manmade stuff is not what I think it should be.

Interested in this set up as I've found other are too but dont want to jack up my unit or the warranty.

    Any info would be appreciated

    2 things...

    1. It does work ...(with limitations)...
    Ehrler's use of XNT-9-DI-T transducer with 1198?

    http://www.crappie.com/crappie/side-...rimenting.html

    2. HB cannot guarantee the safety of your unit with you connecting accessories to your unit that are not specifically designed to work with your unit...(HB has to say this for their warranty obligations)...

Now...will it "jack" your unit (as you call it)...??...There is no definite answer...

Some (including myself) have been running several different xducer experimental configurations without adverse effects to the unit or the xducer for some time now...

I'm even running the Lowrance LSS 2 "skateboard" xducer on my 1197....

Your decision to configure any experimental xducer setup is completely up to you...

thx for the info. Have seen yours and others who have had great results with this type of a setup. Being new to SI units I dont want to jump into something I know little about and jack my unit through my own lack of knowledge. Do you know of anyone running a DI xducer on a 898 HDSI?

It does give a better detail of structure. you will have decide for yourself if voiding your warranty is worth it.

Is it a plug and play type install with the use of a Y cable and switch or splice type install due to the connectors?

if you just need di without si then remove the si transducer and replace it with the di transducer.(plugs right in)if you have two units and the 5 port ethernet switch then you view each units transducer on the other unit via the ethnet swich.(of coarse by doing this then you have vioded the warranty on two units like i have)

If you want a slitelly clearer or better detail then you can use a transducer switch along with a 60°rotated si transducer along with a 2d capable transducer

Kosmo, Rickie or slabbacks, could one of you post a picture of your transducer locations and how you have them mounted? Are you just trying to get better DI images or all images?

I enjoy seeing the snapshots, just curious.

    Mine is kind of "un-orthodox"...

I'm just trying to force this 1197 unit to do things it's not designed to do...

(My next experiment is to wire the new Lowrance HDI xducer to my 1197 to see what it will do...)

don,the thing that you've got to consider is while using di/si the unit relies on the two side beams overlapping which the 455 does fairly decent job but lacks signal strenght because of the rotation of 60°.the 800 gives a sharper looking image but has a harder time overlapping than the 455.by turning the beam strait down gives more signal strenght strait down
