    Default Transducer quick release???

Went to the lake and hit something in the water with the tx, as I can tell no damage to the housing. I heard the object hit the bottom of the boat and then heard the tx get hit. I had the unit mounted on a transom block and luckily not bolted into the transom. The unit did not flip back within the bracket. I can not even make it pull free by hand.

I checked and the free floating bolt still lets the unit spin and from what I can tell the metal bracket would not let it release. Going to remount and take it out and test it.

Should I attempt to spread the bracket apart some before placing it back on the boat or should I send the hole tx / bracket in to see why this did not release. Is this a issue that others have had in the past?

I'm afraid that it may have jacked the tx up when the bracket failed to release upon impact but will not be able to tell untill I go back out.

Unit is a 898c HD SI and the block has had two other tx on it with no issues and a strike with one of them, that transducer flipped up with no issues. Block has been in place sence Oct of last year.

I was hoping the mark would show up on the front of tx. from the outside it looks miner but will an imperfection such as this cause issues with image.

Thought I would post this. I went to the humminbird site and logged in...a chat window popped up asking if I needed anything. Best CS I've seen and fast. it all took about 5 minutes. I can still fish (slow and in places I know lol) untill the new metal bracket shows up in the mail.

[Visitor] 898c HD SI transducer mount did not release the transducer this morning after striking an object. popped the whole mount off. Have reinstalled but should I stretch the metal bracket some or send it in?

[Willette] Hello, this is Willette, thanks for visiting Humminbird.com how may I help you?

[Willette] The bracket will need to be replaced.

[Willette] Is your unit still under warranty?

[Visitor] Yes just purchased 9-6-13. has been reg. and on file. What if the transducer is messed up after popping off?

[Willette] As long as there is no physical damage to the transducer or cable it should be fine.

[Visitor] I will test the tx in the morning and remove the bracket to send in. Do I need a # to place in the box with it or how does this work

[Willette] Sir, we can go ahead and send you the bracket--I just need your name, address, phone number and email address.

    [Visitor] Tom XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX XX

[Willette] The order confirmation number is 6449xxx.

[Visitor] Willette, This is by far the BEST CS I've ever had in anything I've bought from anyone. This WILL be posted on the forums i belong too. I can not thanks you enough for assisting me as fast as you did. thank you and have a GREAT day.

    [Willette] Thank you.

The operator has ended the chat. Thanks for contacting us.

I’ll send Willette a link to your post here slabbacks.

Personally I think that you could just spread the metal bracket a little bit but the new hardware would be a better fix overall. The amount of force needed to cause the transducer to kick up is determined by how tightly the metal bracket grips the plastic pivot arm. Those detents in sides of the metal bracket interfere with the pivot arm (and transducer) from swinging upwards, so bending them outwards would decrease the amount of force and bending them inwards would increase the amount of force needed for it to kick up. As long as the force is applied to the front of the transducer; it should kick upwards. Though not in your case; I’ve seen several transducers that broke when the boat back into of slipped sideways into stumps, rocks, etc. The kick up feature doesn’t help then…

Greg I have a question about this kick up of the transducer. I recently bought a Spring Back bracket made by Shield Saver that is suppose to put it back down if it gets pushed up by a stump which on Toledo Bend this will happen a lot. So is this a good thing to use?

    Thx Greg

I took a mic to the two brackets and the first one I had was tighter than the new one. I also noticed when replacing it with the screws, you could see it pulled the ends in some...this may have been my problem in the first place. Not so much the bracket but the install using the transom plate. Must have been enough give to let the bracket bend in some. Got the parts and replaced them along with adding a Shield & Saver spring bracket.

With the shots I got after replacing the transducer, I think its still good to go. Took a heck of a lick and still stood up to the task.

    thx again

    Skip,
I can’t comment on another company’s product, plus I have never used one of them either.

Okay, just thought you may have run into them at some point. It's spring loaded and mounts on the boat and then the transducer mounts on it.

    Thanks anyway!
