    Default 597 hdci

I have a hum- bird 597hdci or ci hd whatever. It has the down scan. It is two years old and has probably been used a total of 40 hrs at most. The last trip out with it the depth reading went crazy. Would jump from the correct depth to something like 40-60 or 90 something feet. It was not staying at the incorrect depth just jumping there for a second and then right back to the correct reading. Just jumping around crazy. I was in basically 10-15 ft of water. The graph still displayed the correct reading and showed bottom just fine. Its just the depth reading in the upper left corner that went goofy. I checked my transducer and it is still in same position it has been since mounting it. Not motor interference cause I shut motor off to see if it was that. I shut down finder. unplugged it a couple different times. Didn't seem to help. Any suggestions. (other than getting the other brand). That will be my next investment.

Seems like I read there is a setting in the DI unit Sonar tab that allows you to change whether to get depth from the 2d beam or the DI beam...

If there is ...try the opposite setting of what is set on...

Thanks for all suggestions. I will check to see what rev level I have. It will be several weeks before I can get back on the water again to try any of the other suggestions.
Kosmo: For the most part like I the unit. I think it does great at showing detail and ease of use. My biggest fault with it is the fact that when trying to arrive at a waypoint and I keep zooming the map in to get better, closer detail there is such a hesitation in the GPS catching up after the zoom.
As I get really close and the last couple zooms to the 50 ft or 10 ft range many times I will be past the way point before the GPS catches up.
I've learnt a little patience but its just aggrevationg. That's really the only issue have have had. Until this depth thing jumping goofy.

I just checked my unit and it says rev 5.76 or something like that. What are the improvements I can except if I load the latest update? What are the chances of the unit not accepting the update? Hence locking up or not functioning correctly. I leave in 3 weeks for a trip to ky lake. I don't want to cause more problems than I eliminate. Is there anything I need to do prior to installing the latest upgrade

Before answering this you need to confirm what the model name for your unit is and what software version it is running. I looked in the information I have and cannot find a 5.760 software version for the 597ci, 597ci HD or 597ci HD DI models.

Thanks Greg for replying. I went and checked tonight. I have a 597 ciHd down Imaging. The software version is 5.820.

6.640 software is the latest for the 597ci HD model unit. Your unit has 5.820 and there has been one software update between these two, so you will get that when you update to the 6.640 software as well. Here are the changes:
v6.090 - Turned on waypoint decluttering. Changed 2D sonar sensitivity settings to +4 for clear mode.
v6.640 - Resolves problem of going into inline test mode if exiting normal mode too quickly. MOB icon does not get overwritten by start route icon. Corrects freeze going into POS mode, changes heading offset to +/-30 degrees. Can now input nav data from HumminbirdPC.
