Good question Al....I'll be watching this thread and maybe I'll learn something too!
How often do you guys switch colors around on your HDS down/side scan units? Does particular colors work better for looking at different things like rocks, trees, brush, targeting fish, ect? Does depth or water clarity make a difference.
I am using HDS in usually less than 25' and in stained water.
thanks for any advice.

I switch sometimes, usually based on lighting conditions. Although when I do switch it takes a few minutes to get tuned into the new pallet. My home lake is really clear, at times 10' of visibility I prefer the blue and brown pallets so far, but I need to play with all of them again!

same water and depth here,
I play with them but return to blue mostly, tan_ gray,
on subject of color, for 2d, try the color near the bottom of the list with the brown bottom and white background, very good
Can't say much about Lowrance as my only side/down scan unit is HB and I like Amber 2 best I think. I did like the blue on the 1197 I had, but when I got my new 1198, the blue change to a darker blue and not one I care for. Amber is best to my eyes for seeing details.
