looks good
I purchased my HBird 5 weeks ago and got it installed on my boat and went to the lake with it. I had downloaded the manual prior to the unit arriving and had studied it front to back. I printed several key pages for setting and carried them with me. I picked a 1/4 mile section of creek channel that had several contour changes from 15' to 25'. I ran back and forth changing setting with each pass and could not get a good return from the DI although the sonar worked great. I went back and studied the manual again and took it back out with the same results. I suspected that I might have gotten a bad unit at this point. I posted my results on another board and found a guy with the same unit willing to let me test mine with his transducer. We got together and attached my head unit to his boat and the problem was revealed. I had a bad transducer! I sent it back to be replaced and HumminBird turned it around in a few days. I re-installed it and got out yesterday for some testing and took some crappy cell phone picture. The results are even better than I had hoped for when I bought the unit.

These pictures are ok for a cell phone. You would have to see the returns in person to really appreciate the detail that the unit produces. I have read many, many post on various sites from DI users who are EXTREMELY disappointed with the results they get and question the usefulness of this feature. I have only used the unit a couple of times and I don't get that. If you ask me, the only way you could get a better "looK" at the bottom and its structure would be drain the water and take digital photos.
That unit will fish. Good job.
