someone step on here and defend the HB down images. not the interpolated ones on the 998 c, which is indefensible
SeaRay, I too have a Elite 7 HDI. I really like the split screen GPS,2D, and DI. you can just have 2D and DI side by side or over and under . Nice to be able to compare 2D to DI and see the difference. You will like your new unit and enjoy.... crappie1133

In defense of the Lowrance Elite 5 DSI .... I have the original box, and MY screenshot images are better than those on the box (most of which are taken from the unit's simulator program). However, I cannot speak to the images that may have been "online" in any ads, since I bought the unit from a C.c member as a upgrade to a Lowrance Strata 2d unit. Having used 2d units since the 1970's ... it was a bit of a learning curve, going to the DI/color/GPS system. But after having it, using it, and with the help of other owners on the thread I started in this forum ... it has proven to be a worthwhile purchase, to me.
As to the comments on E5DSI vs the HDS units ... the E5DSI units came out BEFORE the HDS series. So, yeah ... the HDS series is a serious step up from the E5DSI unit. The Elite 5 DSI came out in 2010 & was the ICast 2010 Best Electronics winner. The HDS series is already into Generation 2 mode, and is a module system ... whereas the Elite 5DSI is a standalone unit ... so there's no way to compare the two.
As to the "false advertising" idea ... ALWAYS take advertising of ANY new product, with a grain of salt & the understanding that the mfg will always put its best foot forward. Also, bare in mind that something better will be available shortly afterwards (especially with electronics).
.. cp
best foot forward is understandable, but unsatisfactory performance on a large scale is not, this is what I feel the reality is is some cases, what is on the box should be achievable for a high percentage of owners, it is not
That's like standing in a Burger King and looking at a poster of this big burger with all the fresh lettuce and stuff. Picture perfect. Then you get this smashed down, shrivel up looking thing. Is this false advertising??
THE BEST TIME TO FISH IS WHEN IT'S RAINING AND WHEN IT'S NOT RAINING
I have not bought one (still using x96 ) on the front and a cuda on the back . The people using the new models vary in the ability to operate their units to get the most out of them .the units are high tech and require tow to get the best picture and readings . a lot of folks(that I fish with ) can't get 1/2 of what the unit can do .Have seen the same unit from one boat to another just like it and it was night/day difference .Some should have kept their money .If you only can get depth and temp . get the lower end units . Folks on here like BRM/FEELAY and others I am sure could help set one up and advise on how to maximize our investments . bisquick cam make a good breakfast but there are no biscuit in the box when you get it .

Hey, when I started fishing (1940s), only the Navy had sonar. Be blessed you have these toys. I have sculled a boat many miles dragging a treble hook (sonar on a string). I have stuck my head under water "looking" more than once. Pictures are that, pictures. I always look handsome in pictures. Take it here.
