Vik...explain to me again how you are getting left and right SI recorded into your 385ci DI....and showing in Humviewer...

The pix of your towfish seem to show you are using the XNT 9 SI 180 T Compact SI xducer...(with your 385c DI Combo...I assume)...

I can understand the SI xducer having a complete "left" and "right" channel...(each with its own separate piezo wired to its own separate male gold pin in the Compact SI xducer's cable end connector)...

I can understand the SI xducer's "right" channel gold male pin lining up with the piezo channel female socket in the 385c DI unit...

But (to my knowledge) there is no gold female connection in the 385c DI unit's xducer socket that would complete the channel that lines up with the Compact SI xducer's "left" SI channel...leaving the Compact SI xducer's "left" channel piezo "dead"...(there would be a hole in the plastic of the 385c DI socket where the xducer plugs into the head unit...but no gold female connector inside that plastic hole going to the brains of the 385c DI)...

    ??

Yes, the lower gold female connection, that should send/receive signals from left piezo of SI transducer, in my 385ci DI is dead (empty), but upper gold female connection, that send/receive 2D signals is alive. What I did is – I partly removed plastic cover on the cable, exposed very upper and very lower wire, cut the upper wire and connected its end from sonar to lower wire ( without it cutting – it was empty) that goes to the left piezo.

In the beginning I got a very dark picture of the left SI side in 2D window, but after putting the following settings for 2D sonar:

    1) Set 455 kHz,
    2) Set Clear Mode,
    3) Surface Clutter -1
    4) Noise Filter- High2,

I got pretty good SI pictures of both sides in DI and 2D windows (views).

This isn't making sense to my simple mind.....

The left SI piezo in the Compact SI xducer is operating thru the 2d channel of the 385c DI ...(if I'm understanding the wire re-routing you made in the xducer cable end)...

I don't understand how "any" signal thru the 2d channel of the 385c DI unit is showing up as "left SI" data in Humviewer....

I have just checked my Humviewer, what I did is:
    1) Settings ---Mode---SI mode
    2) Right click on the screen----View---SI Both (455kHz)
    3)LeftTop

I did not cut any wires in my
    Humviewer - just settings .

This part I understand...there would be no wires in Humviewer ...(Humviewer just reads the data in the B000"x" channel files and displays the data in Humviewer in the correct format in the user chosen pane in Humviewer...(the "HB recording" B0000 file contains 1 of the 2d frequency data - the B0001 file contains the 2nd of the 2d frequency data)...

My confusion is in how the 385c DI unit is recording the return signal from the left SI piezo (in the Compact SI xducer)...with the signal actually coming thru the 385c DI unit's 2d channel...

Echo data is echo data as far as the piezoes in the xducer are concerned...

But as soon as that return echo data enters the 385c DI unit...the processor takes over and "processes" that data into the correct image format (2d or DI image format)....as dictated by which "wire channel" that echo data came thru from the pin configuration in the back of the 385c DI unit....

So as soon as the return echo data (from the left SI piezo in the Compact SI xducer)...hit the female 2d socket in the back of the 385c DI unit...the 385c DI unit should process that echo data as a "2d image format"......

Then...when all the B000"x" files are transferred into Humviewer....Humviewer should interpret that data as coming from the unit 2d channel and display the data as "2d data" in the Humviewer "2d pane"...not the Humviewer "left SI" pane (as is showing in your sample Humviewer pix)...

Dang...wire channels I can usually grasp ...but this 1 has me stumped...(but I do enjoy a challenge in my brain circuits)...

I played with Hummviewer setting, and set brown color. Have a look what happened with my screen shots that are on page#10:

I like the lighter brown Pallete in SI images..

I wish our stock HB brown was lighter than it is now...

In Hummviewer it can be done lighter, and it looks more distinct than orange color:
