    Default best speed and setting when scouting new area?


    Just getting started using a HB-598 SI. What is best speed and setting when scouting new area for creek channels and brush piles?

    At the console with big motor running at idle is good, 4 to 6, set the chart speed to match. Also when you are using the trolling motor it helps to turn the chart speed down to match your trolling speed. With the 798, same size screen as yours, it seemed to help to only look at one side or the other instead of splitting the screen between the two sides.

    and to add to rees, if you have both a console and bow turn the sonar off on one while using the other (not whole unit, just sonar). it'll keep the gremlins away otherwise known as cross talking to each other.
