the squeaky wheel may get more grease but the smooth wheel, well you don't hear much about something that works, you just tend to accept it without bragging or constantly bringing it up.... maby

i did alot of research and read alot of post on here about both HB and Low units! and after all the debate i decided to go with Lowrance, This is my first time owening a high tech unit i got the lowrance elite 7 combo its suppose to be made eiser to opperate then other models!? Altohug my dad has 2 HB units he also told me to go with the Low that the only reason he bought the other HB was so that he could link them together...(cheaper than buying 2 new units) Ive read the manual and didnt find it real informant but i did find some great videos on youtube!

lowrance people spent their computer money paying extra for their units.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

i will say that the base map that comes with the elite 7 is GREAT you dont even need a map card so you save $150 if you dont allready have! .... Thats a plus for lowrance that HB dont have........

I have the 998 on the trolling motor because i can run the transducer cable down the shaft and use it for looking under docks and staying on objects. I have the HDS Touch 12 to find fish, stake beds, etc. The HDS is much better at that but the HB is best fit for the trolling motor so I use both. But if Lowrance made a cable I could run down that shaft I would change to another HDS unit on the trolling motor the difference in clarity is amazing.

Come again? The base maps with both units are pretty much the same and also pretty much useless unless you can't tell whether your boat is sitting in the water or on dirt. LOL

Was just checking. My 798 comes with their XD series base mapping. Without listing them all, there are 69 pages worth of maps of US lakes. Some of the more popular lakes are left off. Probably an agreement with Navionics so they can sell their mapping. Wouldn't doubt Lowrance is the same way. If Lowrance base maps were as good as their Insite units, how would they sell the more expensive unit? Are you sure you are talking about a base map model or an Insite model?
