I believe that si/di is now becoming obolete.what i saying is,the whole issue for me anyhow is there only a 6 degree coverage area.this being more of an issue on di than si.heres and exsample, lowrance has a unit that is only di.the problem with is,yes it does show kool pictures when things are in the 6 degrees.the bad part is keeping it in the 6 degrees(while not stopping the boat).do you see what im saying? now back to 360,you can sit there all day if you want and not move with clear life picture of whats below and all around.now back to the si,same thing here only 6 degrees, you have to move forward to see something then mark it then go back.with the 360 you never have to go back or have to go directly over it unless you want.like i posted earlier, this is only the first generation of 360.i think in the future it will become smaller and cheaper with options to deploy

I agree that it will get cheaper and have other deployment options, like a tm mount. Some people thought that SI/DI would be the end of 2D sonar but that hasn't happened. I see this as an add on, just another tool for fishermen.

It definitely does raise an interesting concept...

A person could sit anchored 20 yards from a brushpile, watch the fish come out of the brushpile in "almost" real time and then cast to the fish...not just cast at the brushpile...

Rickie, if you buy one I'll come over and watch you play with it . I would like to see one in action or video of it on the water in use. Without knowing much about it, to me it seems like if you were using it idling around looking for stuff that the sweep rate is to slow and you'd miss a lot of stuff. Maybe later versions will have more crystals and have tha option to update the screen every 90* instead of 180*. Slow trolling it may be fine though.

Man I really enjoy this type of post!! I realize how 360 could be useful to me after following this post. However I kept thinking SI would come down in price but never did. I hope 360 does, I might consider it if it does! I don't like the current way it mounts, I can see forgetting about it, taking off and there goes 2grand. Seems they could have it built in to auto retract at ? Mph the finder already knows how fast your going.

The sweep rate is 4 speed variable...I think it's advertised to be used from 0mph -9mph...

The sweeping motion is what allows the system to be stationary and still create an image..it's pings in a successive arc...instead of a moving straight line like SI/DI...

Somehow..the xducer thin slice beam is physically rotating ...

The sweep sector can be sectioned off as losmo has already posted...
