yep! Hard to kill si/di if it's required, LOL. Plus to really utilize the 360, at least in my mind, you'll really need the 1198c. hook a 360 to a 798 and you'd be unhappy instantly. At the price it's at, it's not going to be selling like hotcakes to recreational fishermen. I hope that someone that does all types of crappie fishing will buy one and report if it's really good or not for each type. It's easy to speculate, but until it's out and someone tries it, we don't know a darned thing.

It seems like a day on the lake is a thing of the past. It will be reduced to about thirty minutes. Combine the 360 with spider rigging and you don't even have to park the truck. Back the trailer in the water, jump in the boat, back in thirty minutes with your limit. Why shut the truck off? Your not gonna be gone that long.

To me, that picture is more confusing than a SI or DI picture

What I'd like to see is a DF unit that scans out IN FRONT OF THE BOAT ... so I know what I'm ABOUT to come to, rather than what I just WENT OVER or what's off to the sides of me

Something like a SI system, that looks FORWARD rather than to either side. My says that would be a spider riggers dream ... seeing as how the units are reading what's under the boat (or out to the sides of it), while their rods/lines/baits are 10-15ft OUT IN FRONT of the boat/transducer ... potentially pushing their hooks/baits right INTO the cover they're wanting to fish OVER TOP OF.

That unit, IMHO, "might" well be worth the thousands of dollars asking price of the current units/systems.

would be nice to see that, and could be done by making a TD mount that would position the TD to be looking hortizonal rather than vertical. Some have done something similar, aka a poor man's SI. The SI beams are so narrow that it probably would not be feasible but a 2d turned sideways could work pretty good since you'll always have "deep" water looking forward, but never have a "lock on bottom".
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

Pappy, the 360 does scan "in front of the boat"...

Its actually a rotating radar type beam that radiates 150" out each side while spinning...creating an image of a circle shape 300' diameter..with the boat in the center...

The rotation of the xducer can be set to a complete 360° rotation..or sectioned off "sectors" ..like 180° in front...

The rotation of the xducer is what allows the 360 to be stationary and still create an image...as the xducer spins, the pings are capturing a "different" slice of water on each ping....then the processor plots those pings onto the circular shaped 360 image...the ping data is still "stacked" onto the image..but in a circular shape....(kinda like the second hand on a clock)...

Yeah, Rickie ... I found that out, after I looked at the website. But, it's still not "exactly" what I was referring to ... which is more of a sonar sweep in an UP & DOWN forward direction, so that it would show the depth of the upcoming cover, without having to split screen the image or have multiple units connected in a "system".

I still don't like the idea that this transducer is a motorized drop down setup ... nor that the ad pictures show it transom mounted ... since that puts it in danger of being damaged, and on the other end of the boat from a lone operator.

I will admit that it is some cool technology ... but, $2000 for a add-on system is asking a bit much, especially in this economy. I hate to think of damaging a $60 transducer, let alone one that costs 2 Grand Maybe when the technology surpasses this one, and it comes down in price, there'll be a greater market for it (if it survives).

I wonder why the bird guys are being so quiet about this being and add on, how big it is and about how much it costs. It'll be interesting to see the guys who said "I'll never have a transducer that large on my boat" who will now have this contraption hanging off the back of their boat.

Cool technology for sure and yes the PAID pros will go on about how they couldn't catch fish with out it. But honestly, how much can the "average" fisherman, who actually have to pay for it benefit from it? The better question is, will the "average" fisherman buy it? You're looking at $2300 for the 360 and the mounting bracket and if you don't have a unit that is big enough to see it on another $2000 to $2800, that's $4300-$5100 if you go all in at one time. I'm sure some of the board sponsors will beat BPS prices, but still a lot of $$$.

This is not intended to be a HB bash, just some of my thoughts.

Don't know about on a 700 series, but simulator on my 898's make it seem usable. Like I said before, sure could be interesting to have while pushing.

Who knows, maybe I can win the lottery and buy a 1198, one of these things and move one of my 898's permanently to the kayak!!
