    Default ? for RICKY

Those beam angles you post all the time for the birds, do you happen to have any for the LSS 2. The reason I ask is Im trying to mount a LSS 2 ducer and 2D ducer To get the 2D to read depth on plane I have to mount the lss below that to clear beam. Its 1/2in from the bottom of boat. Im trying to figure out if the beams come out level on each side or at an angle down. When I had my 997 it was higher than the 2D on the other side and would leave a white line next to the boat center in side image. That wasnt a big deal It really didnt block any of the image. I would like to mount the LSS2 a little above the 2D ducer to keep from knocking off.

    Thanks Wilbur

    No I sure don't Wilbur....

I would assume they are similar to the HB and, if so, the 455kHz would go all the way to the surface...

This would mean that you would get some blockage from the HDS 2d Xducer if they were mounted at the same height...

I've seen your posts at bbc and I can empathize with your situation having a tin boat and trying to find satisfactory mounting places for the Xducers....

My suggestion would be to experiment with the LSS Xducer first to get the SI images you want and then experiment with 2d Xducer to see how much "SI blockage" you can live with to get your high speed readings...

After all, if there is blockage and it shows up as a white line close to the center line of the SI image...it's very unlikely that fish or bait are going to be that high in the actual water column for this blockage to cover up the returns of the suspended fish and/or baitfish...

You might investigate the Alumaducer to replace your HDS 2d Xducer...

I found on another forum where the last post in the thread indicates the HDS 455kHz SI beam is 75° and the 800 SI beam is 45°...(I have no proof of their info yet)...

If this is true you should see no blockage when mounting the 2d Xducer at the same height of the LSS...
(This could also explain "some" observations of the Lowrance SI images getting dark in the outer left and right regions of the SI image)...

Wilbur... Just mount them and see what you get....

Lowrance specifies a limit of 23 degree dead rise for hull mounting a LSS-1 transducer. Pictures here I'd expect that implies the beam is angled down more than that. I don't know if that is still valid for an LSS-2 transducer or not.

I seem to remember 30 degrees from somewhere, but can't source it.

ETA: If found some data on the LSS-2 transducer that indicates a single thru-hull transducer will work on a boat with up to 24 degree dead-rise which would imply the beam angle is about the same as the LSS-1 transducer.

Man I'm having a heck of a time trying to find valid verified data for the LSS1 and/or LSS2 beam angles...

I'm finding info of 75° to 60° to everything on both sides of that...

If its on the Internet...I will eventually find it...

I just don't understand why Lowrance don't just provide that info in the specs....seems like important info...

I did find this..http://www.fishtec.co.za/Sonar%20Principles.pdf in a PDF sonar tutorial from Fishton of Fishtec.com...
He refers to the side scan beams being 60° left and right (total 120°) ...which would leave 30° to the surface on each side above the SS beam reach...

This would also work with Catfan's find of the LSS Xducer not to be hull mounted on any boat with deadrise greater than 23°...

I wanna Thank you two for helping me out. Rickie [sorry i spelled name wrong in post] When I had the 997 I had that white line you spoke of next to the boat centerline in SI, It was no big deal to me. I just made an adjustable mount 1 1/4In. up or down. I will start all the way up and lower as I need it. I can live with that white line if It means protecting the LSS 2. I might have some pics of it tomorrow, If I finish it.

Again Thanks Rickie and Cat Fan. Rickie whats your name on BBC?
