In a HB SI series unit...

    "Menu" "Menu"
    Cursor over to "Sonar" tab
Cursor down to "Down Imaging Beam Width"

There are 3 DI beam width settings...."Narrow", "Medium", " Wide"... (Default is "Wide")

I still have not gotten a really good explanation of what these settings actually mean except that "Medium" has a wider coverage angle than "Narrow"... And "Wide" has a wider coverage angle than "Medium"...

In my 1197...I have generally found that the 455 will be brighter than the 800 "at the same sensitivity setting"...which sometimes can give the image the conception that the "brighter" 455 setting looks better...

When I raise the 800 sensitivity setting to get the same image "Brightness" .. The 800 is noticably crisper...

This is reason again to constantly adjust the HB Sensitivity setting to get the best eye appealing image at any given point or circumstance...

I'm pretty sure everything is default. I'm still learning the unit but due to physical problems I haven't been able to get out much.

Thanks for the comparison images between 800 and 455. I was just doing the same thing today with my HDS7 on the lake. i settled on the 455 in apx 10-14 ft of water.

im not sure of how to describe the difference in the two(455/800). ive been using humminbird si/di for a few years now and for me, ive decided to just keep my unit on 455. the pictures that im showing on this post are all 455. using a humminbird 998. ill dig up some pictures using the 800 and post them next.(the 2d is 200khz)

    Default 800 khz. vs. 455khz.

Maybe I need to give my 455 a shot again. And see which one I prefer. Maybe the image wasnt as clear as it should be due to the fact my unit wasnt as dialed in as it needs to be
