Thanks Greg. I did read something about it in the manual after I made this post. Tommorrow we will attempt to install my friends 998. I think I have studied the on-line manual and read enough posts that I think that we can get it done. He didn't purchase an SD card or a mapping card. I told him we need to wait and see what Lakemaster comes out with for Arkansas on the mapping card.
What size SD card do I need to pick up for snapshots and recordings? Looks like we are going to be running wire about 17 feet, what gauge wire do you guys reccomend for this? I plan on putting a 3 amp in-line fuse on the positive wire. Is this the required size fuse?
Thanks for the help,
Dave
CATCH A BIG-UN
Dave,
A 3 Amp fuse is the recommended size.
For running wire that far (you have to remember that in extending the power cable 17 feet that the actual added length to the circuit is double that = 34 feet) I would use at least a 14 AWG wire. Make sure this is a copper multi-stranded type.
For the memory card I would get at least a 4GB sized SDHC memory card. The SanDisk is recommended and you need to go with one that has a faster read/write speed - so look at SanDisk’s Ultra 2 or even better would be the Extreme 3 SDHC memory cards. Keeping Sonar Recordings to 30 minutes maximum makes it easier to review as well.
Dave,
Get the mini-blade 3 amp fuse. I use to have an inline 3 amp fuse (round cylinder type held in place with spring) but if the waves were really rough, it would lose power to my 1198. Now I rewired it with a 3 amp mini blade fuse and it will not loose power no matter how bad the waves are that day. You can get them at radio shack.
