Time for me to upgrade and buy a new pole and reel. Heading to northern Wisconsin and decided to swing by St. Croix plant and buy me a new pole. I really like the one I bought last year, although its a little too stiff for crappie and I use it for Walleye. This time around I'm picking up a Premier Spinning 6'6" Ultra-light fast action rod, 1/32-3/16 lure weight, 2-6 pound line, single piece construction. Model PS66ULF.
I swung by Bass Pro and bought another Shimano Sedona spinning reel, 4th Shimano. This time its a Sedona 1000FD, gear ratio 6.2:1, line capacity- 2-270, 4-140, and 6-110, and weighs 7.8 ounces. Planning to marry the Sedona to the St. Croix for jigging and slip bobber fishing crappie over brush piles, and laydowns.
What is your next pole, or favorite set-up, and why?

Well just bought a Shimano Sustain 1000 FG and right now is on a rod that is very close To 8' one piece made by a fellow member in Oklahoma. Have a bunch of Sustains and have been using them since at least the mid 1990's. last pole I bought though is a BNM 10' Gold Jig Pole, like it a lot too.
Got (own) plenty of "favorites", Hanr3 ... just not particularly looking into buying anything new in the rod/reel dept.
I have enough outfits to do most of the types of fishing that I care to do, except spiderrigging, and I make do with what I have ... whenever that method is employed.
Congrats on your new outfit, though ... and I hope it serves you well

Tim, I believe in St Croix rods. Crappiepappy will laugh at this but here goes. A couple of years ago I lost 2 Premier rods & Shimano Symetre reels due to being forgetful. I decided an old man didn't need equipment this nice so I went to Shimano rods. Shimano rods are very good but I still favored St Croix.
I am now back to 2-Premier 6' L rods with Symetre 1000 reels. I am a dock shooter and brush pile caster & jigger.
I now have 14 Shimano Symetre reels and a few long poles but use my 2 Premier rods 90% of the time.

11 or 12 ft Sam Heaton super sensitive with a Pflueger president reel
I have my eye on a 7' lightweight Fenwick spinning rod. Don't know about the reel yet.
I've been late to the 7' rod phenomenon and want to give it a try.
Great choice on the St Croix rod. I had an Avid that I broke the tip on and returned it to St. Croix under warranty. I ended up upgrading to a Model PS66ULF and am extremely pleased.....have a Sedona reel on there as well. FWIW, St. Croix's customer service was outstanding!
My current favorites are:
Loomis TSR 790 with a Daiwa Fuego 1500
St. Croix Avid 60ULF with a Daiwa Fuego 1500
I'm actually trying to get rid of some rods, so I don't plan on buying much in the near future. I would like to get a couple of graphite telescopic poles, though. I have my eye on a 12' and a 15'.
