Thanks for your input guys. Think I'm gonna try the red cedar and sweet gum for now and see which one works better. The lake is close by, and I can always change tactics.

Old River at Morganza
River at 19 feet in BR this morning. Does this mean river water is pouring into Old River at Morganza? I'm under the impression anything over 15 feet floods the lake. Right or wrong??

Fish alone most of the time. Peace and quiet on the water, no hurry, enjoy God’s creation. Conversations with him off and on all day. And bring dinner home.

Live Bait availability?
Is live bait (crickets/shiners) available at the local boat launches at Old River in Morganza? If not, will need to stop on the way from Port Barre to load up.

Thanks D,
Know exactly where it is. Water stays pretty dirty due to heavy rain runoff from local agriculture fields. Have heard about the spring crappie spawn bite along the banks before. Probably... -

Heard about this site thru a friend. Thought I'd jump in and see what it's about. Retired and just moved back to Port Barre, La and I would like to fish sac-a-lait at Old River as soon as conditions...
