I've done as score did and fished bait I caught around my light along side store bought the store bought seemed to catch fish better/quicker but I have noticed that if the bait fish/shad are smaller...

The lights are actually green lights that you see the kids with under their cars weighted on one to float vertical, and can be bought on ebay in a set of 4 for less than 100 bucks.

its called a banded water snake, they are colored like a copper head so you'll think they are poisonous and leave them alone,
